Reader Letters - ALL Based on Love

I received literally HUNDREDS of responses to my June 22nd Newsletter on the topic of Less Hate, More Love, More Thought, More Unity. Honestly, I LOVE my GON readers so much...there was not one that was not sent with words of love! I wish I could include them all, but here are just a few that reflect most of the messages. (I removed last names since this is such a sensitive topic, and edited a bit for space):

You did an excellent job in this newsletter expressing the need for each and every one of us to care about and love one another, regardless of what the other one believes or feels about the events in our country during the past few months and even further back. It is awful to see the pain and suffering that many have had to endure through no fault of their own. My heart goes out to all who have lost loved ones and those who have been injured physically, as well as emotionally and financially, during this time and during times before. The state of the country is often in our prayers.

Thank you for such a thoughtful newsletter.

I just wanted to applaud and thank you for your article this week. It is a very busy time for me, but I am so afraid that you will get some negative reactions (although your readers seem not to do that) that I had take the time to add my ounce to the 'positive side.' I know that you have never been 'political' - but as a commentator said this morning, this is a 'moment' and it is a time that hate can come in to fill the void.

As you say, we need to spread more love. I was especially glad to see you talk about 'more thought': if we hadn't done this previously, we have been given a window to see what people of color have to deal with on a daily basis. I am grateful that you have given so much to so many people, on a continuous basis for such a long time, to help us organize these crazy lives of ours. I buy your products every once in a while (for myself or as a gift) sometimes just to show my support.

With much appreciation for all you do.

Thank you for that thought-provoking message truly from your heart. Yes, one could say that a newsletter about getting organized is not the place. But obviously you put a lot of thought into it.

Hate is so unnecessary.

Anger and buried unforgiveness really only hurts the one holding it. It's kind of like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. There was a time in our country when it was the fad to wear a bracelet with the letters WWJD. I never wore it, but it truly meant something for those who did. What Would Jesus Do. In other words, think before you react.

Thanks, Maria, for having the courage to step out and put your thoughts in your newsletter. I know it took a lot of courage. I applaud you!

Thank you for your message today. May we practice love as God's Word tells us: 'Above all, maintain constant love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins.' 1 Peter 4:8 NRSV Be blessed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us what is in your heart at this difficult time. Like many people, I am having such a hard time with where we are right now, and your thoughtful message gives me great suggestions on how to change things, a little at a time.

Very well said. Thank you for acknowledging what is going on, while not taking a side and challenging us to be the light in the world.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It's nice to know you went out of your way to say that. Also, readers can always do something, locally and nationally, to help. There are many good organizations designed to do that. Contact them, donate resources or time, etc.

As a teacher who taught in inner city Los Angeles (blonde, young, Russian Jew), I overcame many obstacles...racism, anti-Semitism, etc. When I left, they gave me a going away party...and we all cried.

Today, I teach everyone--whenever you see or hear an injustice, to anyone, anywhere, intervene, don't just look the other way..not just violence or racism. When someone cheats, at work when bosses lie, break rules and morals, tell someone. Don't just look out for your own self. I reported a former neighbor for slapping her disabled father on our street. We have to behave like we're all in this together.

Thanks again, and blessings to you.
