Organizing Your Pantry by Category
I don't know how your grocery stores are doing with inventory during the past
several months, but my grocery store is still very 'hit or miss' with many
common pantry staples, like pasta, rice, flour, etc. So, when I do see these
items in stock, and especially when they're the brands I like to use, I purchase
a little more than I need so we'll be set for the months ahead.
Anyway, I recently reorganized my pantry a bit and doing so reminded me of
something I do that you might find helpful. I organize my pantry by
category to make it easier to locate items when needed:
Left Side
Shelf 1: (TOP) Reusable Water Bottles and Thermoses.
Shelf 2: Coffee, Tea, Cocoa...and items I use with these, like honey, mini
marshmallows, and stir-sticks
Shelf 3: Baking Items (Decorative, like sprinkles, cup cake tins, and such)
Shelf 4: Baking Items (Flour, Sugar, Baking Soda, etc.)
Shelf 5: (BOTTOM) Cooking Oils and Sprays and some liquors I use for cooking
(Safety Note: If you have young children, the alcohol shouldn't be stored on the
bottom shelf where it's easily accessible.)
Right Side
Shelf 1: (TOP) Bread Crumbs, Crackers, and Mix Packets
Shelf 2: Nuts, Raisins, Dried Fruit
Shelf 3: Pasta, Rice, Other Grains, and Dry Beans
Shelf 4: Rice Cakes, Chips, Pretzels, and other snack-items
Shelf 5: (BOTTOM) Oatmeal, Pancake Mix, Cereal
Your set-up may be a bit different, depending on your set up. In addition to my
pantry, I have a corner, built-in Lazy Susan cabinet, where I store jar and
canned goods.
