  In Memoriam

Always Remember, Never Forget

Here we find ourselves at another September 11th, marking 19 years since the terrorist attacks on the United States of America. September 11, 2001 will forever be etched in my mind and heart. Ever since then, I've had this quote posted on my desk...it's a daily reminder (and especially relevant right now) to always speak, listen, and live every day with kindness in mind.

'If we learn nothing else from this tragedy, we learn that life is short and there is no time for hate.'
--Sandy Dahl, wife of Flight 93 pilot Jason Dahl

  Organizing Tip

Get Those Random Tasks Done with this Simple Method

Place a pretty glass mason jar on the counter. Label it 'Job Jar.'

Every time you think of a random task that needs to be done (touch-up paint on the bathroom wall, empty the crumbs from the toaster oven, dust off and declutter the top of the fridge, clean the crumbs out of the computer keyboard, etc.), just write it on a slip of paper and put it in the 'Job Jar.'

These should be tasks you can get done in 30 minutes, or preferably a lot less. If a job is bigger than this, only include whatever you can get done in 30 minutes on the slip of paper...you can always put another slip of paper with 'part 2' of that job, later, after the first part is done.

Schedule 'Job Jar' time...daily, every three nights, every other night, or whatever works best with your schedule, on days and at times that are convenient. I almost always tackle my 'Job Jar' tasks after dinner, and before my family sits down together to watch TV for a bit...and I only schedule 'Job Jar' time on weeknights... no weekends.

When it's 'Job Jar' time, I just shake the jar, close my eyes, and choose one task...and that's my job for the night. Last night, I randomly chose 'clean out and organize the spice drawer.' Today that job is done...and it makes me happy when I look at the now absolutely spotless drawer AND all spices organized alphabetized.

Married couples may choose to pick one each (resulting in 'Job Jar' tasks getting done twice as fast!) Anyone with kids can make age-specific 'Job Jars' for the family...a whole lot gets accomplished when families work together.
