  Fabulous Reader Tip

My productivity has gone up exponentially



Hi Maria,

One of my favorite ways for being productive is being sure I start my day moving.

I've worked at home for years, so I used to go from bed, to the shower, to my home office desk (where I ate breakfast)...and there I'd pretty much sit until lunch, which I always ended up not taking until 2:00...and then worked at my desk until dinner time. This resulted in constant back aches, eye strain, overeating, intermittent loss of focus, and an unfulfilled feeling by day's end.

A few months ago, I said to myself, 'Self...you have to do things differently to feel better.' And so I did.

Now I take a shower at night, go to bed an hour earlier than I did before, wake up early, go to my kitchen table for a relaxed, healthy breakfast, and go out for a 20-minute walk before starting work.

When I get back to my desk, I set my timer to sound every hour. Each time the timer sounds, I stand up and stretch, lift some hand weights, maybe do some sit ups, etc. Then I get back to work.

This sequence happens about 3 times before lunch...which I no longer eat at my desk...and 3 times after lunch. I take the time to 'work' AND 'get away from work,' eat healthy, give my mind scheduled 'rest time' and I'm moving more throughout the day.

Even though I'm spending less time at my desk, my productivity has gone up exponentially, my eyes and back don't feel strained anymore, AND I actually end the day feeling really good about myself.
