TO DO This Week

____ 1. Observe World Mental Health Day. Today is World Mental Health
Day...a day for us to identify any challenges we may be experiencing ourselves,
as well as to determine how each of us can make a contribution so that anyone
living with mental illness can live their lives in the best way possible, with
dignity. Here are some ideas:
a) Be sure that, while you're in the midst of helping others, that you're
helping yourself. This has been a year of emotional challenges. Be sure you're
taking time each day for reflection, stress-relief, and proper sleep.
b) Advocate for wellness programs in your workplace, your church, and/or your
community.
c) Offer support to others who are struggling. You don't have to fix their
problems, but a listening ear can be a huge benefit to someone who needs it.
d) Be kind...always. You just never know what someone is going through in his
or her life.
____ 2. Inventory/assess winter tools and equipment. Yes, we're still
enjoying autumn in all its splendor, but in many areas, we're soon to be
challenged with snow and ice. This is a good week to be sure that:
a) your snow blower is up to speed (get it serviced if needed)
b) you have enough shovels
c) your vehicles are stocked with an ice scraper, a blanket, and emergency
flares
d) you have salt or kitty litter at-the-ready for icy walkways and driveways
____ 3. Dust off three dusty surfaces. These are generally not hard to
find. Sometimes, it's clearly visible on dressers and coffee tables. Other
times, you have to seek it out...on computer power cords and behind computer
towers, on the hard surfaces of the car, on the top of the refrigerator, on
the TV screen, or behind kitchen appliances.
