Do you have tips for working on my computer, from home?
A GON Reader Asks
Hi Maria,
As for this critical moment, it seems a number of my friends, like me, are
re-organizing things at home as we sync home/work offices.
One specific element already being added to home offices is video conferencing,
and once established, I doubt it's going away.
My questions about this to you are:
1. How does this adapted technology alter the ways we store, transfer and
organize in the home office?
2. What components should we be on the lookout for as we research our needs and
fits?
3. Should we be expecting quick, dramatic upgrades to technology and
compatibility levels, and potentially charges for what is now free?
Thank you for all the fine organizing you've modeled and shared for a long time
now! Stay Well!

Maria Gracia responds...
Hi Janet,
Yes, I definitely feel video conferencing is a big part of many lives right now,
and is here to stay...at least in some form...even when (if) some folks return
to their offices. I use video conferencing on many occasions now, and even do
professional organizing consulting in this form. To answer your questions:
1) It's definitely important, when working from home, to stay organized. I would
recommend, if using a home computer, to have a MAIN digital folder specifically
for work-related topics (mine is simply called 'Get Organized Now') and then
that folder can be further broken down into smaller components as needed. I also
recommend an automatic back-up utility. I use a company called Mozy for this
purpose. It's one thing to lose a personal file, like a Christmas card list, if
your computer crashes. It's another thing, way more detrimental, to lose client
files. Storage items would include any you'd typically have in a regular
office...like a filing cabinet for paper, an inbox for current projects, a
cabinet, closet, or shelving for office supplies.
2) As far as components to be on the lookout for, I like working on a desktop
computer and/or my laptop (which has a large screen). The laptop is, obviously,
portable, which allows me to work at a coffee shop on occasion, which is a nice
switch from working at home. When working on my laptop, I use remote desktop
software, so I can access files on my desktop, when using my laptop. Good
lighting is an absolute must for video attendees to see you well, as well as a
clean background. A well-organized bookcase or nice wall art behind you (and
maybe some greenery) provides a professional feel to others. Be sure your
computer or laptop has an HD camera for the highest quality, either an internal
or external one. Invest, as well, in good headphones and a high-quality
microphone.
3) I use Zoom as my video conferencing technology. It's a free service that
allows up to 40 minutes of video-conferencing time for up to 100 participants.
If more time, or more participants, is needed than those limits, they have paid
plans. As far as the possibility of upgrades to technology, compatibility
levels, etc., that's always (unfortunately) inevitable. Life changes on a dime
these days, often without much warning. That all being said, I've had my current
computer for about five years now...and I keep it as clean as possible, run
necessary updates, etc. My Internet in my home is pretty strong in my home for
video-conferencing. So, luckily, I haven't had to make a whole lot of changes
(knock on wood) lately. Hopefully, if your computer is fairly new and you keep
it maintained, you won't have to either.
I hope some of this helps.

Slim Down Your Upper Thighs

Complimentary Customized Video Plan
Only Available
Until 11:59 p.m. on November 6th

Is it really possible to shrink a woman's tummy while eating MORE food? Even at
any age? Fortunately, YES. Movie stars do it all the time. Even while being
tempted with savory high-calorie meals and delicious drinks.
The trick? Get your two major flat-tummy hormones into balance. First is
estrogen. It flattens your tummy by helping your body process carbs...and gives
you that get-up-and-go energy. Second is progesterone. It works by protecting
against the fat-inflating side effects of stress...a problem for nearly ALL
women.
Get your complimentary customized video plan, discover what foods and activities
work best for YOUR hormone type, and get ready to slim down your upper thighs
and flatten your tummy. Visit:
