____ 1. Not putting off until tomorrow. One important concept, when it comes to organizing, is not putting off until tomorrow, what can be done today. For instance, leave dirty dishes in the sink for a day or two, and not only will they pile up, but they'll be more difficult to clean. Wash dishes, or add them to the dishwasher, directly after eating...rather than allowing them to pile in the sink. If you allow paper to begin piling, it may grow to the ceiling and it will take forever to file it all away. I always file as I go. Wait a week to clean the bathroom, and it will require deep cleaning each week. Tidy up the bathroom each day for just a few minutes, and you'll never have to deep clean again. This concept applies to so many different areas of life. Whenever possible (and most times it IS possible), don't delay on the basic, everyday things that tend to pile up. Handle them now and you won't have to even think about them later.

____ 2. A clean, organized refrigerator. Ok, I'll admit that we humans have come up with some silly-sounding 'official holidays,' but the one being celebrated TODAY is sure to be an enormous help--especially since Thanksgiving is approaching and you're likely going to need space for turkey and pumpkin pie. November 15th just so happens to be National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day. What's lurking in your refrigerator? If you don't know, now is the perfect time to find out. Empty your fridge--and freezer. Clean the inside, and then begin returning foods you're still planning to eat. Don't take up space in the fridge with food and beverages that are just going to sit there for months unused. Even if it's a full bottle of salad dressing that you only used once and discovered you didn't care for, get rid of it. Why keep it if you and your family members are not going to consume it? If you find something and you're not sure what it is, just toss it. Be sure to label your food packages and containers with the contents and the date you stored them for quick decision-making regarding if you should keep or toss.

____ 3. Steno pads. Steno pads, originally designed for taking dictation in shorthand, are the perfect tools to hold all of your thoughts so you don't need to keep them all in your head. They're small enough to fit in a purse, but large enough to write in and read from. The spiral binding allows for easy writing. The lined paper helps keep thoughts organized and easy to find. I open it up to a blank page, write a title on the top of the page, and it's ready for any information I wish to recall later on. The super-nice thing is that I can review my notes a few days later, and I'll know exactly where they are--rather than jotting my thoughts on dozens of sticky notes that can easily be misplaced. When the pad is full, I quickly go through the pages and determine if any need to be kept. At that point, usually the task or project is done and the entire pad can be recycled. If I do need to keep a page, I tear it out and file it into my filing system. Easy, quick, inexpensive and helpful! To grab some, visit
