TO DO This Week

____ 1. Apply moisturizer, hand lotion and lip balm...daily. This goes
for both women AND men and will help reduce the chances of your skin drying out
and cracking. I am forever putting on Chapstick on cold days to prevent chapped
lips. Plus, I apply lotion and/or moisturizer several times during the day when
I need to go out into the elements. If I'm going to be outdoors and away from
the house for awhile, I bring my lotions and lip balm with me.
____ 2. Give yourself enough time to dress right. Since it takes a few
minutes longer to put on a coat, hat, scarf, gloves, boots, etc., always start
getting ready 10 minutes earlier than normal. Dress in loose layers, with an
outer covering of water resistant materials to protect against water and wind.
If you have young kids who need extra help getting their winter gear on, give
yourself an extra 20 minutes to get them dressed, just to be on the safe side.
____ 3. Up your fluid intake. Many people associate dehydration with very
warm weather, but in fact it's very common in cold weather. Cold weather often
suppresses the desire to drink water. Fill your water bottle and drink
throughout the day...even if you don't feel thirsty. Most people should be
drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day...even when it's cold outside. Also, be
cognizant of the fact that many indoor drinking fountains are off limits, due
to Covid-19 safety concerns. So, depending on how long you're going to be out
and about, you may need to bring a second already-filled water bottle with you.
