____ 1. Gingerbread. Today is National Gingerbread House Day. Celebrate by building and decorating a gingerbread house or by making cut-out gingerbread cookies. Your entire house will have the wonderful aroma of Christmas and your family will have a delightful after-dinner treat to enjoy.

____ 2. Make Christmas pomanders. Christmas pomanders are, simply, oranges pierced by cloves, sometimes tied with red ribbon. As the fruit dries, it smells amazing. The cloves can be arranged in circles, diamonds, or any number of patterns and shapes. If small kids are helping, use a toothpick to poke pre-made holes which makes it easier for them and so that the pinchy cloves don't hurt their hands. Additional hint from The Old Farmer's Almanac: 'If you want your pomanders to last, store in a paper bag for a few weeks. Use lots of cloves which are a natural preserving agent. The cloves will draw out the juices and they'll shrink in size. Dusting with cinnamon helps, too, as cinnamon functions as an anti-fungal.' Display pomanders in a glass bowl and use as a frugal, festive Christmas Eve and Christmas Day centerpiece. Be sure you take photos for future memories!

____ 3. Make notes and plans. Christmas is a whole lot easier and organized when you make notes and plans. It's not too late to have a well-planned Christmas this year...and it's not too early to have organized Christmas's to come. Use one notebook or binder, as a handy reference, to categorize by topic (gifts, meals, baking, budget, etc.). Yes, meow means something

What does it mean, you ask?

Good question. It's about the same as aloha in Hawaiian.

The meaning changes.

Context matters hugely. Is it a mean meow, or a friendly one?

What about the cat's body action? Is he facing towards you, or away? Is the tail curled, or lying flat against the floor?

Depending on these points, 'meow' could mean 'let's watch a movie together' or 'boy am I thirsty right now.'

So getting the tone and body language right is critical.

Finally, there's a quick guide on the essentials of cat communication to open your ears (and your heart) into the fascinating world of feline communication, both verbal and nonverbal.
