I love GON reader tips...here's one I recently received:

After our washing machine broke down two days before Christmas, my wife bought two (just to be on the safe side). Now all family members bring their clothing requiring cleaning to the basement, individually, and add them to one of the machines. One is designated for white clothing, and the other for colors. Each machine is started when it's full (occasionally a little premature, when the sun shines, because we have a solar panel option.) The second washer is a real help!

Great idea. I don't think most of us think about having a second washing machine, but I can see this as being a nice helper for larger families. Thank you, Frank for sharing!

In addition, if you haven't stowed away Christmas decorations yet, another reader had some wonderful ideas. Here is that note:

Storing Christmas decorations is a challenge when you have no basement. We store in the attic and, as we get older, the large storage containers are difficult to manage. I now collect quality shopping bags throughout the year. I fill them with like-items and tie the handles with plastic grocery bags to give them a sturdy handle. My husband can hand them up so neither of us needs to climb up and down the pull down stairs and they are not too heavy. I replace a few every year as they wear out. The only large container I use is for ornaments. Even though that is big, it doesn't get too heavy. Of course candles go into a sturdy box on a closet shelf. Thank you for your wonderful newsletters.
