Organizing Thought of the Day
|
There he was, smiling at me...
I was chatting with a friend, yesterday, who was telling me that she just put
away the last of her Christmas decorations.
She neatly packed away about twelve, labeled boxes in her basement holiday
closet, breathed a sigh of relief that the project was done, patted herself on
the back, and was having a hot cup of tea in the kitchen to celebrate. Then, she
saw him. She said to me, 'There he was, smiling at me...a porcelain Santa.'
Too funny!
Have you ever felt so satisfied that you completed something, and then realized
you didn't?
Putting away that last Santa required my friend to go back into the basement,
open her holiday closet, pull down a box, and tuck him away. Not too bad.
But sometimes, it's a bit more aggravating and/or time-consuming.
Perhaps it was a cabinet you were assembling. Right when you thought you were
done, you saw a part on the floor that you forgot to include.
Maybe it was a cake. After you baked it, you turned around, and noticed you
never added the cup of sugar you measured out.
This happens to everyone now and then. It's part of life. Sometimes whatever it
is that we thought we finished is going to have to be started over, fixed,
reassembled, back-tracked, or require more steps or tweaks.
Being organized will greatly reduce how often this happens.
Being organized will also help you get back on track when it does.
The Santa can be put away.
The cabinet can be reassembled.
The cake can be re-baked...or bought from a bakery in a pinch.
Take a deep breath. Calm your mind. Get into a positive 'can do' frame of mind.
You will get to that finish line.

___ 1. Do today's (January 25) Organizing TO DO provided in my January
Organizing Checklist. It has to do with DVRd programming...especially if you
have tons of TV programs recorded and you rarely can watch it all. Visit
GetOrganizedNow.com to
access it.
___ 2. Try not to touch anything more than three times. This tip has
to do with picking something up (a sweater, a sheet of paper, a book, etc.) just
to move it out of the way 'for now' and never really getting that item into its
proper home. Ideally, you can try picking up something once, deciding on its
home if it doesn't have one, and putting it away. But, by the third time you've
picked it up, make the commitment to stop shuffling it from one place to
another, and bring it to where it's supposed to be...someplace in your home
or office, someone else's home, the donation center, etc.
___ 3. Delete your clutter! Now you see it, now you don't! Here's how to
delete your clutter... Visit
GetOrganizedNow.com to
access it.
