  Organizing Thought of the Day

I'll get to it when I have time

It's very easy to procrastinate and say, 'I'll get to it when I have time,' whatever 'it' may be. Very often, folks procrastinate because whatever it is isn't a pressing matter, like transferring photos off a cell phone and onto a computer, organizing the bedroom, weeding out a filing system, or writing a bunch of thank you notes.

You may want these done...maybe the fact that they are sitting on your (paper, digital, or mental) TO DO list is bugging you...but they don't hold consequences that are that severe in most cases. So, you keep putting them off leaving their completion to some off-chance that time will appear out of nowhere. It doesn't work like that. Time only appears, when we commit to it.

What have you been putting off that you really would like to accomplish? Forget doing it ALL. Instead, do a 'small piece' of that project today. For instance, get 10 photos off your phone and onto your computer, organize just the surface of your bedroom nightstand, weed out 5 file folders (or 3...or even 1), and buy premade thank you cards from the grocery store on your next run (so you're prepared for writing out at least one thank you card this week.

Make a 20-minute appointment to do that small TO DO. Set a date and time. Get that appointment into your calendar...just like any other important appointment. And do that small TO DO on that day and time.

  Take Action

___ 1. Do today's (January 28) Organizing TO DO provided in my January Organizing Checklist. It's focused on cell phone photos. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access it.

___ 2. Give away a coat or jacket. Have a peek in your coat closet and determine if you have a coat or jacket that you never wear. If so, remove it and give it to a local charity. In doing so, you're freeing up closet space, and helping out someone in need.

___ 3. Clean your stovetop without scrubbing. Here's exactly what I do...no scrubbing required. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access this secret.
