Organizing Thought of the Day

4 Secrets for Calming Your Mind
|
Stress was never meant to be an all-day thing. Yet, I see so many folks reaching
the breaking point these days. Being organized and being calm go hand in hand.
Here are four secrets of mine that are very effective for me...and I hope they
are for you as well.
1. Re-read a beloved book. I keep track of the books I read...and I rate
them on a scale of one to five. A '5' rating means those particular titles were
so good that I'd read them again. I think books like this are meant to be read a
second or third time...and re-reading them is a wonderful way to escape from
real life for just a bit with something we already know is going to be
comforting to our mind and spirit.
2. Do the 30-second superhero pose. Feeling like the world is crumbling
around you? Stand tall, chest out, shoulders back, hands on your hips, feet
shoulder distance apart. Stay in the superhero pose for 30 seconds and focus
your mind on your strength. Keep saying to yourself, 'No matter what it is, I
can push through it.'
3. Give yourself some music therapy. My 17-year old had her car radio
tuned in to Classical Italian music the other day. It made me smile and I asked
her why she chose it. She said, 'Sometimes I like switching to beautiful music.
It calms me...it's like therapy for my soul.' Taking her lead, I found a deep
sense of calm switching to a variety of new beautiful music.
4. Organize something. This is always a tried-and-true favorite of mine.
You may say, 'What? How is working associated with calm.' Actually, it is.
Organizing can give you a sense of control in a chaotic world. This is not to
say you have to turn your whole kitchen or garage upside down. But even
organizing something like a shelf or a drawer can provide a much-needed sense of
accomplishment and serenity.
