  Organizing Thought of the Day

Fabulous Organizing Tips 1-2-3 from GON Readers

How Brenda keeps her recipes in order...and shares them

In 1993, I had recipes in so many places...many recipe books with post-it notes so I could find the ones I used the most...family recipes on recipe cards or on my computer.

I finally took the time to type out all of my recipes and keep in Word documents with personal notes about each one. I printed these and placed in sheet protectors and put in 3-ring binders and gave one to each of my kids so they will always have the recipes they grew up with.

Over the years, I have added to my own copy with recipes I've tried and kept. Those recipes that I want to try are printed and placed in the pocket at the beginning of the notebook. After I try them, either keep because I liked them, or toss. Now I have 2 binders, one for main dishes, salads, appetizers. The 2nd one for breads, desserts, cakes, pies, cookies, gifts, holidays.

What one GON reader does with buttons
Regarding extra buttons, instead of putting them in a button box, jar, etc., I sew them in the seam or hem of the garment. I always know where to find them. Also, when I give the garment away, the next person will have them if needed!

Ricky has a great way to make cucumbers last!
I live alone, so I never finish off a whole cucumber at once. After I slice into a cucumber, I wrap the part I'm not going to eat in plastic wrap...very, very tightly so there is no air (like they do with English cucumbers at the grocery store) and I place it in the fridge. The cucumber tastes as fresh as when I first purchased it...and lasts for up to a week!

  Take Action

___ 1. I just published my brand new March Monthly Organizing Checklist! Do today's (Mar 3) Organizing TO DO focused on organizing upcoming meals. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my March Monthly Organizing Checklist.

___ 2. Begin bringing spring gear back into the rotation. Spring is almost here. Begin rotating spring gear back into more easily accessible areas (gardening tools and such.) In the meantime, slowly begin rotating winter gear (rock salt, snow shovels, etc.) back into storage...BUT, if you live in a cold weather state like me that still has a chance of a snowstorm, don't empty the gas from your snow blower or put that shovel too far away just yet. In Wisconsin, sometimes we get snow as late as the end of April!

___ 3. Organize your computer icons. Are your computer icons a disorganized mess? If so. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my article on this very subject.
