Is Coffee Affecting Your Productivity?
|
While scrolling through Facebook today, I saw a cute graphic that said, 'What
goes best with a cup of coffee? Another cup.' Many folks are coffee aficionados
these days...these are the folks who love coffee and have a cup whatever chance
they get.
While a cup of joe can have a wake-up effect for many people, stimulating
productivity and energy, sometimes too much coffee can actually affect
productivity in a negative way and have other harmful effects as well.
Coffee addictions, usually considered when more than 30 ounces of coffee are
consumed daily, can cause blood pressure to rise, heartburn, abnormal heart
rhythm, dehydration, muscle tremors, anxiety, headaches, and other health
challenges.
If I've had over my limit of coffee (or even caffeinated tea, or chocolate which
also contains caffeine) in a day, I notice the effects on my body, from
headaches, to a fluttering eyelid, to insomnia. So, while I enjoy coffee, I
limit myself to one cup a day...very, very occasionally two... 8 ounce cups.
Everybody has a different tolerance level.
When I wake up in the morning, my drink of choice is water...a big glass and
sometimes with a lemon or lime. I will then have a cup of coffee late morning,
around 10:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. And that's usually my last cup. I then
drink a lot of water through the day which naturally flushes caffeine so I
can get restful sleep in the evening.
Drinking water first-thing in the morning is hydrating (it's really good for
your skin) and kick-starts your metabolism. It also makes you less dependent
on that cup of coffee to get you going. Many folks will say they 'need' that
coffee first thing, but for most folks, it's just a habit. Water, for the high
majority of people, has that same energizing effect, without the caffeine.
So, certainly enjoy your coffee, but watch out for the negative effects that
may pop up from drinking past your limit. Effective organization starts with
an energetic body and a clear, focused mind.
