Organizing Thought of the Day
|
Out of the Box Happiness
|
Ever watch kids play? They run, jump, spin, and laugh. They swing too high on
swings and kick balls that sometimes clear the rooftops. They look like they
don't have a care in the world and they always look like they are having so much
fun. Do you know why that is? Because they are!
Most of us were just like them at one point in our lives. Of course, as we got
older and we slowly took on more responsibilities, it's more than likely that
playful zest faded away.
The past year has been especially hard on everyone and, no doubt, we all could
use a reason to smile. Although we can't just change the world's current
situation, we do have the power to change the little things around us and give
ourselves some well-deserved stress relief. A fast, easy way to do that is to
learn from the kids around us and take back some of that fun we experienced as
children.
Although this may sound strange, try doing some of the things that kids do while
they are out having fun. When was the last time you blew bubbles outside? Or
drew on the pavement with sidewalk chalk? I'm guessing that, for most of us, it
wasn't yesterday. Yet these simple things can help to break up your day-to-day
routine and bring you a little bit of joy. You can draw stick figures if you
wish...or try your hand at crafting a motivational quote, using chalk, on your
driveway.
Try taking a walk to the nearest park and actually getting on one of the swings.
Maybe you aren't willing or able to swing as high, but just sitting on the swing
and gently rocking back and forth can bring back a ton of memories.
Buy yourself a coloring book and see how good you are at actually staying
in the lines.
Grab a basketball and play a game of one-on-one with somebody close to you. It's
OK if you're not great at it...or even good at it. Who cares?!
We could all benefit by taking a step back every now and then and enjoying the
little things around us, much as the children around us do without even thinking
about it.
As adults, we all work so hard. It comes with the territory. We have jobs,
families, responsibilities, and people who are depending on us for everything
under the sun. Sometimes it feels good to just take a break from adulting and
release the child that may still be lingering somewhere inside you.
On a cold, wintry day go outside and build a snowman. On a hot, scorchy day go
outside and have a water fight with the garden hose.
Growing older is inevitable. Luckily growing up is strictly optional.
