Organizing Thought of the Day
|
Jumbled to Streamlined
|
Every drawer in most homes holds very specific items. Silverware, socks, hot
pads, kitchen utensils, and other like-things all get stored in one particular
drawer in the house. Then there is that 'special' drawer that contains
everything else under the sun that we don't really have a specific place for.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the junk drawer!
Although this drawer is a catch-all for everything from paper clips to writing
utensils, to takeout menus, to heaven knows what else, there is no reason why
this area needs to be a messy dumping ground. This drawer can be better
organized so that you can hold all of these miscellaneous items in a way that
you don't need to endlessly dig to find what you are looking for.
Start by investing in some small plastic drawer dividers. These can usually be
at the Dollar Store and the sizes they have there generally fit quite nicely in
the smaller drawer space. Place them in the drawer and then begin placing like
items together in the bins...one for pens and pencils, another for paper clips
and rubber bands, etc. While you're at it, sort through the items in this drawer
and get rid of anything that you have way too many of. Having the drawer
compartmentalized really does help to keep things better organized as well as
makes it easier to locate what you are looking for.
Just as compartmentalizing a junk drawer keeps things better organized, doing
the same to other areas in the house will as well. Sock drawers stay neater when
you use drawer dividers to keep socks in neat rows. Desks stay more manageable
when you use containers to hold items both on top of the desk as well as inside
of it. Makeup stays better organized when it is kept in a countertop makeup
organizer instead of just being thrown in a drawer.
In order to be more organized all over the house, consider drawer dividers.
Dividers help to create containment which makes everything appear neater and
gives everything from socks to office supplies a proper, well-organized home.
