My husband, Joe, and I are celebrating 24 years of marriage today. We've come a long way and have had so many life experiences since the moment we said, 'I do.' It will be fun reminiscing and celebrating.

No matter what anniversary...birthday, wedding, start of a new job, graduation from high school or college, death of a loved one, a day you won an award, the day you first ran a 5K, etc. recognizing and celebrating that event, years later, gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and appreciate its significance in our lives.

While you can certainly do that any day of the year, an actual anniversary (3 months, 1 year, 10 years, 25 years, 50 years, 100 years, etc.) is a solid calendar day reminding us to reflect on a) the original event, b) all the roads, hills, and valleys traveled since then, and c) how we can use those experiences as the pages of our lives continue turning ahead.

Here are a few questions for reflection...

Questions about the date the ACTUAL EVENT took place: 1. Where was this event held? What was the weather that day? Who was with you?

2. What are a few things that occurred (happy, sad, or both) that touched your heart deeply?

3. If you had to describe that day in only 3 words, what would they be?

Questions about celebrating the ANNIVERSARY OF THE EVENT:

1. What are the 3 most significant events that have occurred between the actual date and now...those that have had the most impact on your life?

2. Looking back at the actual event date, and fast-forwarding to today, what are a few very important lessons you've learned since then?

3. What is something you have today (a ring, a photo, pressed flowers, a baby rattle, a quilt, etc.) that you have had since the actual event. How would you describe its significance to you?

Whether you're reflecting with a person who shared that event with you, or you're simply journaling about it on your own, formulating and answering questions is an organized, effective way to discuss, answer, and reflect on that anniversary.

Finally, I'd love to hear from you. What is something meaningful that you do on special anniversaries in your life? Let me know...your story may be published in a future edition of this newsletter.
