Before You Toss Out That Lone Sock...
|
I typically don't lose socks in the washing machine because, before washing
them, I place them all in a zippered lingerie bag. Doing this helps keeps socks
from mysteriously vanishing.
If you don't do this, you may sometimes find a lone sock and put it into 'sock
purgatory' while you await the return of its mate...sometimes found days, weeks,
or months later tucked into the folds of a fitted sheet, or statically attached
to a bath towel.
However, sometimes sock mates are lost by other means. Perhaps one was
inadvertently left behind in a hotel room? And kids are always losing socks...
who knows where they go? Of course, now and then, a sock begins to get a bit
threadbare, even if its mate is perfectly fine.
You can certainly bid adieu to that lone sock...or you may want to repurpose it:
1) Slip a sock over your hand and easily dust your window blinds, slat by slat.
2) Make a shoe deodorizer pouch. Fill a sock with baking soda, tie it with a
knot, and stuff that odor-eliminating pouch in a stinky sneaker. Hopefully you
have two lone socks so you can de-stink two shoes at the same time. :)
3) Make a sock puppet for your young kids or grandkids. It's a great activity to
do together...and a very inexpensive toy that requires the imagination to get to
work.
4) If you don't have pads for the heads of your golf clubs, use stray socks to
help protect them when traveling.
5) Protect delicate objects...like Christmas ornaments...or a glass item you're
traveling with.
6) Stray socks make a great impromptu case for something you don't want to get
scratched, like sun glasses.
7) Use one to cover an ice pack...so you can use that ice pack for relief
without it being too harsh on your skin.
8) Use as a wrist-rest. If you use a computer mouse, fill a long sock with
polyester filling, knot it or sew it, and use to lift your wrist up a bit as
you're typing, providing some comfort for a sore wrist.
