Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers

Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...

During Quarantine, I Got Bored and Here's What Happened

Thank you, Maria, for your recent newsletter message about not having to rush through decluttering.

My basement has been an unfinished 'dumping ground' for 50 years. During quarantine, I got bored and took your advice to 'declutter just a little at a time to get started.' It worked!

After several months, I live alone and am still having fun (amazing!) decluttering that basement a bit every day. I found precious keepsakes...but mainly, things I could repurpose, trash, or give to charity.

I'm reliving the last 50 years of my life and decluttering at the same time. 50 years of stuff won't disappear in a week or two. It's been hard work, but worth it!

Thanks for your words of wisdom!

This Has Made My Decluttering Work Totally Worth It...
Hi Maria, I've been going through a decluttering phase recently, and one of the little tasks I needed to take care of was finding a place to sell a tiny collection of scrap gold. I had a few gold dental fillings, a single earring, a couple broken chains...you get the idea.

So I found a place near me where I could sell it and I stopped in. When I walked in, I was expecting about $20. It was really a very small amount. I walked out with $613!

Of course, this motivated me to take a closer look at my jewelry box and I found some jewelry I hadn't worn in nearly 20 years and really wouldn't even notice if it was gone. I ended up with a total of $2,540! This has made all my decluttering work totally worth it!

Take advantage of 'paper decluttering' events like these
Maria,

Every spring, our local bank sponsors a free paper shredding day about a month after taxes are filed. You can bet I'll be purging files, to add to the shredding box that I keep in my office all year long, in anticipation of this event. Keep up the great newsletter!

1. Physical Clutter
2. Paper Clutter
3. Digital Clutter
4. Emotional Clutter

Once clutter is here, it begins to wreak all sorts of havoc...

  Take Action

___ 1. Do today's task on my May Monthly Organizing Checklist. The May 20 TO DO focuses on the swimming pool. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my May Monthly Organizing Checklist.

___ 2. Transfer information from scraps of paper. Information on scraps of paper (phone numbers, notes, ideas, etc.) tend to get misplaced. Gather all those Post it notes, etc. and get that information (if you need to keep it) where it belongs...your phone's address book, your TO DO list, your grocery list, etc.

___ 3. Post these sayings someplace visible. These 5 little sayings will help you get and stay organized. Jot them down, and post them someplace where you'll see them every day. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my article on this topic.
