When I'm at home, or when I return home from being away, I want to feel like I'm entering a peaceful, comforting haven...where I can feel the daily stressors fade away...and immediately feel a sense of relaxation and joy. This is just one of the reasons why I am a big believer in:

a) no clutter, no chaos

b) clean and tidy

c) surrounding myself and my family with what brings us joy

Here are quick ways to accomplish this:

1) Handle little messes (dirty dishes, the mail pile, laundry, etc.) today, rather than tomorrow.

2) Tackle small cleaning projects 'as you go.' This includes small cleaning TO DOs like cleaning/disinfecting the kitchen counter after cooking, dusting off a surface when you can visibly see the dust, cleaning up a fridge spill as soon as it happens, and vacuuming a room when you can see it needs it.

3) Focus on a tiny organizing and/or cleaning project each day. The day before yesterday, I tidied one pantry shelf, yesterday I straightened out the towels in the linen closet, today I'll be weeding out one dresser drawer. These tiny TO DOs allow you to 'keep up.'

4) Change the scenery. I love re-decorating, but I rarely do anything huge or time consuming. I might change up something on my kitchen counter, rotate some seasonal items in and out, or add fresh flowers to a room.

5) Make things comfy. Comfort is key at home and I do whatever I can to make being at home more comfortable and cozy. For instance, we have soothing chimes in our backyard that we can hear when we're outside or in the kitchen, our favorite soaps and shampoos (and soft towels) are always stocked and ready in the bathroom, and there are comfy pillows on the sofa that are pretty, but also meant to be used for comfort...they're functional!
