Organizing Thought of the Day

Manage Your Time Better with Time Pockets
|
A time pocket is a specific length of time within your day, or week, that is set
aside to do something. Here are two examples of how you can use time pockets in
your life:
A) You're waiting for some extra time to magically come into your life to begin
learning how to speak Italian. That time never seems to arrive. Chances are, it
never will...unless you make that time. So, you set up an 'Italian Time Pocket'
from 8:00 to 9:00pm on Mondays and Fridays and you use this time to begin
learning Italian. Nothing except a major emergency should interfere with your
Italian Time Pocket, and within a few weeks, you should begin to have a
beginners Italian vocabulary.
B) You love to browse Pinterest or Facebook, but you're spending two hours each
night doing so and you can't get anything else done. The dishes are piling in
the sink, the laundry is overflowing, and the dust bunnies have taken over your
furniture. But you LOVE social media and don't want to give it up. Solution:
Schedule a 60-minute 'Get Chores Done' time pocket from 8p-9p. Also, schedule a
30-minute 'Internet Time Pocket' each night (like 9p-9:30). That will give you
210 minutes per week to enjoy social media, but you'll also have plenty of time
to be productive and get those chores done. Use that Internet time pocket as a
reward once your work is done...don't indulge in it until your TO DOs are done
for the day.
Whether you are NOT spending enough time doing something, or you're spending TOO
MUCH time doing something, creating time pockets in your life can help.
