  Organizing Thought of the Day

Day 4: Organizing Starts in Your Mind

While there are a small percentage of people who have a difficult time getting organized because of some physical limitations, the obstacle for the majority of people is not physical, but rather mainly in their minds. In other words, how you think about organizing, can greatly affect the actual outcome of the organizing itself. This week, for 5 days, I'll be focused on how to get you in the right mind-set to organize. Today is Day 4.

Don't be held prisoner by your clutter

So many people have so many possessions they've been collecting over the years, and even though they 'say' they want to lighten their load, that rarely translates into action.

Perhaps you have a basement of furniture that was given to you because a relative passed-on. You never use it and even though it's taking up the majority of your storage space, you can't seem to let go of it.

Or maybe, you've collected so many things over the years that remind you of different intervals of your life...college textbooks, clothes from the 80s, board games that have been collecting dust since you moved into your home.

No matter what your situation is, if you have things you never use and/or don't enjoy, that are taking up space you could be using for things you do use and/or do enjoy, then you're being held prisoner by your clutter.

1. Donate some of these belongings to a local charity. Perhaps, you'll feel better just knowing that someone else could make excellent use out of whatever it is that's catching dust in your home.

2. Keep a 'part' of something, rather than the entire thing. For instance, if you still have every single baby outfit for your child who is now in college, keep one outfit--one that you've always really loved--and keep that ONE as a memento. Pass on the rest to an expectant mother, or a church organization.

3. Take a photograph of the item, and give the actual item away, or sell it. The item will no longer require physical space and you'll always be able to reference your memory album in the future.

Don't allow your clutter to hold you hostage. Take charge and begin freeing yourself from its stronghold.

Learn What Your Cat is Trying To Tell You With...

The Cat Language Bible

In it you'll learn how to finally understand
and speak with your cat

Yes, meow means something

What does it mean, you ask?

Good question. It's about the same as aloha in Hawaiian.

The meaning changes.

Context matters hugely. Is it a mean meow, or a friendly one?

What about the cat's body action? Is he facing towards you, or away? Is the tail curled, or lying flat against the floor?

Depending on these points, 'meow' could mean 'let's watch a movie together' or 'boy am I thirsty right now.'

So getting the tone and body language right is critical.

Finally, there's a quick guide on the essentials of cat communication to open your ears (and your heart) into the fascinating world of feline communication, both verbal and nonverbal.

This guide, written by a PhD animal communications expert Dr Jonas Jurgella, is the missing link that allows you to bond with your own feline friend as if he was a human child.

That's the power of true and honest communication, vs the primitive 'animal baby talk' that so many pet owners unfortunately relegate themselves to.

'The point is, you need to distinguish between what honestly moves you and what the world is telling you should melt your heart. If something doesn't reach you on a personal level, let it go. It's hard enough dealing with everything that does.' (Judi Culbertson)
