  Organizing Thought of the Day

Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers

Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...

Where lost socks can end up...

Hello Maria,

In reference to your Before You Toss Out That Lone Sock newsletter issue...

I had to laugh out loud when I read where lost socks can end up! Our school district's colors are red and black so I often washed my kids gym clothes in that color load.

One day my son came home a bit upset that one of his sister's socks was on the back of his P.E. shirt. Of course, his fellow classmates had to give him a hard time about it so he ended up throwing the sock in the garbage.

Needless to say, his older sister was not happy with him!

I SO enjoy every one of your newsletters! Have a great day!

A tip for buying in bulk
Not sure when you're going to run out of a product? When buying groceries or household products--especially in bulk or at wholesale prices--place a note with the date you actually started to use a particular item on its box or container. Then, note the date on which the item ran out.

This allows you to better monitor your usage of certain products and know when to budget for replacement items way in advance rather than playing a guessing game.

In addition, you will be able to work out if you are getting true value for your money, by dividing the total cost paid for the item by the length of time it actually lasted.

Remember, a bigger product may not necessarily last longer than a smaller product especially if the smaller product is more concentrated. To help in this area simply read all labels to help you make a more educated purchasing decision.

I'll Think About That Tomorrow
Maria, Loved hearing from the 76-year-old Professional Procrastinator!

I think we all have a little of that Scarlett O'Hara, 'I'll think about that tomorrow' syndrome. Your suggestions were great. Although my husband and I have begun cleaning out a lot of 'stuff,' there are still times when things pile up and need attention. I love your idea of handling just one small task a day for 15 minutes. I'm going to remember that!
