Organizing Thought of the Day

Things You Use, But Don't Have Space For
|
I was helping a client declutter her kitchen the other day. Some items were
very easy for her to get rid of...a cracked wooden spoon, two of five spatulas,
dilapidated pot holders, etc. But there were other things that she did not want
to get rid of, like Mr. and Mrs. Santa salt and pepper shakers, a set of
colorful salad servers, and a cherry pitter.
These are items she uses, but only uses occasionally. The salt and pepper
shakers are only used from Thanksgiving to Christmas, the fancy salad servers
are only used when she has summertime guests, and the cherry pitter is only used
once a year when she makes cherry preserves.
Her kitchen was very tiny with very little space for things she hardly ever
uses. So we created a few 'overflow boxes.' We purchased three, medium-sized
plastic bins and labeled them:
Kitchen: Seasonal
Kitchen: Canning
Kitchen: Entertaining
Any items she had in any of these categories went into the appropriate
'Overflow' box.
The salt and pepper shakers went into her Seasonal Overflow Box, along with
other holiday items like cookie cutters, Christmas pot holders, reindeer cheese
spreaders, and a snowflake spoon holder.
The cherry pitter, a canning jar lifter, jar labels, extra lids and such went
into the Canning Overflow Box.
The salad servers, napkin rings, a cheese board, and other entertaining items
went into the Entertaining Overflow Box.
These boxes were stored in her storage closet, where they are easy to access
when needed, but out of the way on a daily basis. She was so happy that her
kitchen storage areas are no longer cluttered. Plus, when she needs something
only for occasional use, like the cherry pitter, she knows right where it is.
A friend who works from home but whose 'office' is basically only a desk has an
'Overflow Box' for her extra office supplies. It is stored in her hall closet.
The only caveat to an Overflow Box is being sure you don't allow it to become a
portable junk drawer. The only things allowed in the Overflow Box must be things
you USE at least occasionally. It is not for storing those dishtowels you hate,
a surplus of fast food menus, or the plastic cups from coffee shop you're
storing because you might, possibly, maybe 'someday' (who knows when) need
them...'just in case.' Those types of items should not go in the Overflow Box.
They should go to the thrift store or your trash can.

Have you ever found yourself alone, singing a song...maybe out of tune... only
to realize a co-worker or family member listening and making fun of your
ability? Or maybe it was an insensitive joke, like: 'Don't give up your day
job.'
We shrug these things off and pretend they don't bother us, but it hurts and
it ruins our joy of singing.
On the other hand, you may be very excited to know that, within a matter of
weeks, you could...
Sing so incredibly well and with such power and expression, that when people
listened to your voice, they felt goosebumps and welled up with emotional tears?
This leads me to something really good that I know you're going to love. If
you've ever wanted to learn how to sing (or to sing better), this singing course
is head and shoulders above the rest...it's called Singorama.
