  Organizing Thought of the Day

Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers

Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...

Look Around and Pick Up Something

Dear Maria,

One of the greatest pieces of advice given to me was by a restaurant manager: Always have something in your hand. Look around and pick up something from this room and carry it to the next room where it needs to be. Like dishes, books, purse, cleaning supplies, etc. I'm still surprised with how much I can get done by moving objects when I'm on my normal path through the house. I love GON (Get Organized Now!) and have for over 15 years.

I really did a double-take...
Hi Maria

I really did a double-take when I saw the pocket watch in your May 13th, 2021 GON in 5 Minutes Newsletter. It's almost exactly like the watch my Grandfather gave to my Father when he left Norway in about 1923.

It's identical, except that his was an Omega and I can't make out the brand on the one in your newsletter, even with a magnifying glass. What a coincidence.

--Katherine Halsey, South Australia

Note from Maria Gracia
Hi Katherine, Do you have the watch now in your own memory box? If so, what a treasure! I don't know what the brand of the watch is, in the photo in my newsletter. Sometimes I use my own photos for my newsletter, and other times, I use a photo service. This one was from a photo service. I tried to use digital photography software to maximize the photo and determine the brand for you, but was unable to do so. It wasn't clear enough. At any rate, I'm glad it surprised you and brought back a fond memory.

I Have Very Little Closet Space
Maria, In answer to your reader's question about organizing, in your May 4th, 2021 GON in 5 Minutes Newsletter, I have very little closet space. I roll up my tops and put them in my dresser, in a single layer, so that I can see them once I open the drawer. My short sleeve tops are on the left and my tank tops are on the right, with shorts in the middle. I have one drawer each for work pants, jeans and casual pants. This works out very well for me, because I'm not pulling out clothes trying to find what's at the bottom of the dresser.

All people have clutter to some degree. You may have a little. You may have a ton. MOST people are somewhere right in the middle.

For anyone who has clutter, have no doubt in your mind that CLUTTER GROWS. Small clutter challenges soon turn into large clutter issues.

Plus, clutter is sneaky...it doesn't only show up in the pile of shoes you may have in your closet, the overload of toys in the toy room, the boxes of stuff in the basement, or the stuffed-to-the-max drawers and closets in your home. Clutter can actually invade your life in FOUR forms...

1. Physical Clutter
2. Paper Clutter
3. Digital Clutter
4. Emotional Clutter

Once clutter is here, it begins to wreak all sorts of havoc...

There is only one way to get rid of clutter...and that is by using a proven- effective clutter-removing system. Only then will you be able to face clutter head-on and have the clutter-free life you deserve.

Want to say goodbye to your clutter? I have just the thing you need for a glorious, clutter-free life. For more details, visit:

  Take Action

___ 1. Do today's task on my July Monthly Organizing Checklist. The July 16 TO DO focuses on the school year ahead. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my July Monthly Organizing Checklist.

___ 2. Say goodbye to 10 items in your clothes closet. For most people, this should not be too challenging. If it doesn't make you feel good wearing it, it should be replaced.

___ 3. Assess the number of sweets you eat in a given day. While it's fun to have a sweet treat now and then, sugar is not very good for our health. I eat less sweets by doing this one simple thing. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my Dirty Little Secret on this topic.
