  Organizing Thought of the Day

Day 1: Organize Your Way to Better Health


The topic of 'getting organized' relates to every single aspect of your life...your home, family, schedule, finances, social life, education, career, retirement, relationships...EVERYTHING. Starting today, and for the next 5 days, I will be zoning in on organizing your way to better health. Today is DAY 1 of a 5-day series.

1. Begin with decluttering and organizing your non-perishables. Open your pantry and kitchen cabinets. Are the foods in them aligned with your health goals...or do you feel there are way more unhealthy options than you'd like? If there are more unhealthy options, consider getting rid of those choices OR relocating them to a more inconvenient storage spot, like a higher cabinet, where you're less likely to grab those choices all the time.

A friend of mine stores mini chocolate bars in her freezer. She defrosts one on Fridays and treats herself when it's thawed. It's kind of a mindset thing with her that works...especially since her doctor told her she may be headed towards diabetes if she didn't drastically cut back.

2. Then, make healthier choices more appetizing. I keep nuts, cauliflower pretzels, raisins, dry beans, oatmeal, pasta, wild rice, etc. in clear mason jars, rather than their original boxes.

One benefit of doing this is that these healthier choices simply look nice in the jars (if I need to, I cut out the name of whatever it is, and the cooking instructions from the box or bag, and tuck it into the jar.) Add a ribbon to those jars, and they'll look even more charming!

Another benefit of doing this is you can easily see when you're running low...something not as easy if all you can see is an opaque box.
