Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers
Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...
What I store in my shoe organizers
I use a hanging shoe organizer for my knitting needles. As an avid knitter, I
need different lengths in each size. There are extra pockets available for
accessories, like tape measure, stitch markers, etc.
I use another hanging shoe organizer for travel items such as small toothpaste
tubes and brushes I get from my dentist, liquid soap and lotions, etc. Whenever
I can travel again, it's all there waiting for me.

We try hard to keep each other happy
I think you'll get a kick out of how my husband and I almost solve our problem
of him not seeing the 'clutter' that I see.
Shortly after we started living together, I noticed my husband had left a paper
on the floor in the living room near the entrance to the kitchen. I passed it
often and got madder and madder every hour that he didn't pick it up. It's a
high traffic spot, so no excuses. And I wasn't going to be one of the people who
picked up after others. I was always taught to pick up whatever I put down. So I
was going to wait it out.
After probably a day and a half, I finally broke down, and shouted at him, 'Why
don't you pick up your paper.' His response was 'what paper?.' I then pointed it
out to him and he promptly picked it up and said, 'I never noticed it.' I
learned my lesson that day. No point getting mad if the other person doesn't
have the same standards. Now I just pick it up or ask him nicely to pick it up
and usually that works well.
However, as for dishes in the sink, that's a different story. We take turns
cooking and cleaning up, and my rule is the kitchen has to be cleaned right
away, but our compromise is as long as the kitchen is clean by breakfast time,
we are fine. He'd leave it all day, if I wasn't around. A couple of times he
forgot and I was not pleased. Yet we try very hard to keep each other happy.
so...
My friends can't believe we do this, but if he is really tired and doesn't feel
like doing the dishes at night before bed, he either gets up before me and does
them or he just hides the dirty dishes. Yep, hides the dirty dish. Hides them so
I don't see them. And then he does them when I go to work. It keeps us both
happy. I don't see them, and he does them when he wants.
Sounds crazy, but it works for us. Our problem solving technique: Talking it
out, understanding the other person's wants, and finding a good compromise is
what works for us. We've been together over 20 years..with a nice clean kitchen!
LOL!
I enjoy reading your newsletter every day. Even if the situation doesn't pertain
to me, it's always interesting to read each day.
