Organizing Thought of the Day

Keep an Ongoing Wish List
|
Every now and then, I see something and I say to myself, 'Hmmmmmm...it might be
nice to have one of those' (whatever that item may be). For instance, the other
day I saw a bamboo cutting board that I
I know I would use. But it's not like it was an emergency for me to have it
immediately. So, I added it to my Amazon Wish List. It's basically a 'holding
place' for things I may want to get sometime in the future.
I like to think of this as my 'ongoing wish list.' It's basically a list of
things that I like along the way, that I don't want to forget about, but am not
quite ready to acquire. Sometimes I'm waiting to build enough Amazon points so I
don't have to pay full price for the item. Other times, my sister or a friend
may want to get me a gift for my birthday or for Christmas; they can go to my
wish list, see an item that they know I'll like, and purchase it.
Now and then, I change my mind completely and delete the item from the list,
deciding I no longer have a need for it. Not purchasing immediately and giving
myself time to 'mull it over' is actually a great way to keep clutter at bay.
and saves money as well.
Throughout the year, my husband adds books and other items to his wish list that
he may want as gifts for birthdays or Christmas. It's great that he does this,
because it's nearly impossible to buy a random gift for him that he'll actually
enjoy and use. When I buy it for him, he'll ask, 'How did you know I'd love
this?!' I'm not sure if he forgot he added it to his own list months ago, or
remembered but he's just being nice because he's so happy that I used his list
to choose from. Either way, he's always happy when he gets something that was on
his list.
I like using Amazon for my ongoing wish list because it's convenient and because
I buy often from Amazon. In fact, the item doesn't even have to be sold on
Amazon in order for it to be added to the Amazon Wish List. I installed a Chrome
Extension called 'Add to Amazon Wish List' that allows me to add anything from
any website to my Amazon Wish List. I love having one convenient wish list that
can be accessed, added to, or changed at any time.
That being said, you certainly don't have to use Amazon's Wish List to have an
ongoing wish list. You can keep track of items you may want in your own personal
computer document or even make a handwritten list). No matter what, having an
ongoing list is a great way to stay organized and not to forget about those
possible treasures you may come across throughout the year.

Some people are eternally happy no matter what their situation. Others find it a
constant struggle to find happiness. Most folks are somewhere in between both of
these.
Throughout the years, I have determined that the happiest people in the world
are not just happy 'by chance,' but because they've taken specific actions in
their lives. Once you know and apply these actions, you'll be able to harness
and release the happiness that is deep within you.
Whether you're looking for just a little more happiness or a whole lot, my
