  Organizing Thought of the Day

Low Effort Habits to Help You Stay Organized

Staying organized is something we probably all strive to do. And it really does not have to take a whole lot of effort to achieve this goal. There are simple things you can do to help you stay better organized and keep messes from piling up. For instance:

1) Never put anything down 'just for now.' Things you own should have a place and that is where they should go when they're not in use. Putting things down temporarily can quickly turn into a surface piled with items that need to be put away. Don't allow this to happen.

2. Recycle any junk mail before it even gets inside your door. Don't bring it inside to sort through later. For other mail that is NOT junk mail, such as bank and billing statements, consider switching to paperless delivery. The less paper coming into your home the better. Having less paper to sort through will cut down on the clutter. For anything you do need to read, have a specific tray for that and try to tackle it daily at a consistent time each day or evening.

3. Make it a habit to clean out your email inbox daily. Deleting twenty email messages once a day is always less tedious than having to go through hundreds or more once a week.

4. Resist the urge to overload your calendar. Having an overly busy calendar can cause you to feel overwhelmed and like you are always behind on things. Don't feel like you need to be a superhero. Only add as much to your calendar as you can realistically accomplish.

5. Clean as you go. Always keep cleaning in whatever process you're doing. When you cut a clothing tag off a garment, don't leave it on the counter. Throw it out. Wipe the bathroom sink and counter when you're done using it. As you're peeling vegetables, put all the peels and scraps in a bowl, and then toss them in your compost pile, garbage disposal, or trash can all at once.

Some people are eternally happy no matter what their situation. Others find it a constant struggle to find happiness. Most folks are somewhere in between both of these.

Throughout the years, I have determined that the happiest people in the world are not just happy 'by chance,' but because they've taken specific actions in their lives. Once you know and apply these actions, you'll be able to harness and release the happiness that is deep within you.

Whether you're looking for just a little more happiness or a whole lot, my Happy for Life resource includes the information you need to multiply your happiness levels. For more details, including the three factors that contribute most to increasing your level of happiness in your life, visit:
