Organizing Thought of the Day

Love Reading? Make It a Priority
|
As someone who loves to read, I am always searching for the next book that I can
dive into. I have a group of friends that share my love of reading and we all
like to pass our little treasures around after we are finished with them. I
just finished reading Ordinary Grace.
If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.
So many folks have said to me, 'it is not the finding something to read' that is
the problem, but rather the 'finding the time to read' that is more of an issue.
Still, if there's something in life that we truly enjoy doing, it's important
to make that a priority.
For me, reading is a guilty pleasure and something that I like to do just for
myself. I have a little pact with myself that I set at least a little time aside
each day to indulge.
On weekends, that time is almost always in the early morning. After I'm dressed,
I'll make myself a cup of coffee, grab my book, and read for a half
hour...sometimes a little longer. If it's a nice day, I sit outside on the deck.
If the weather is inclement, I sit and enjoy a bit of reading time in my
kitchen. It's the perfect, unrushed start to my day.
On non-weekend days, I read right before bed. I slip into my pajamas and grab my
book (or Kindle.) This is usually much-needed quiet time for me. It always helps
me wind down before falling asleep. I honestly cannot think of a better way to
end the day than with a good book.
Now and then, I'll deviate from my regular routine and read at odd times of the
day instead...like the hour I spent reading on the beach, while on vacation a
few weeks ago. I also managed to score 15 minutes of reading time when one of my
appointments was running late. While I don't love 'waiting,' having a good
book to read made the time more enjoyable.
As busy as my days can be, I always make time, at least once per day, to make
reading a priority. It's just one of the ways I give myself a bit of daily
self-care.
