  Organizing Thought of the Day

Ask Maria:
How are you not completely exhausted at the end of the day?

A GON Reader Asked:

You are obviously a busy person between your business, the fitness classes you teach, your home, your family, and your volunteer efforts. I would like to know, and I hope this isn't too personal, what time you wake up and go to bed, how often you cook homemade meals, and how you're not completely exhausted at the end of the day.

--Jill L., New London, CT

Maria Gracia Responded:

Hi Jill,

Too funny. It may seem like I'm always running here, there, and everywhere, and some rare days, this is true. But, I do manage to get at least seven hours of sleep, cook a homemade dinner most of the time, and have relaxation time throughout my week.

I wake up at 6:30 in the morning...and go to bed around 11:00 (sometimes 10:30) at night. I will sometimes sleep in just a bit on the weekend, maybe 15-30 minutes, but I try to keep my sleep/wake schedule consistent most days of the week. As far as my daily schedule, I do my best to spread my TO DOs out over the whole week and not pack way too much into my day. I like relaxation and reward time in between my tasks.

Teaching the fitness classes (actually exercising in general) are wonderful energy-boosters for me...and, I believe, are huge factors in helping me sleep soundly at night.

I'm a big proponent of healthy eating, so I do cook homemade most nights. This way, I know every ingredient that is (and isn't) in our meals. We go out to dinner once a week, or once every two weeks. We'll do take-out for dinner maybe once a month. That being said, I strive to make meals that take 30 minutes or less to prepare before it needs to be put into the oven, on the grill, etc. I also make use of my crockpot so dinner is hot and ready on busy nights. Meal planning on the weekend helps tremendously, as well as being sure I have the ingredients to make the meals on that meal plan.

While I'm not completely exhausted at the end of the day, I do enjoy my 'wind down' time...which usually begins around 9:00 in the evening. I rarely do any household/business TO DOs after this time...as I consider this sacred personal and family time to relax and enjoy.

Thank you for asking.
