Organizing Thought of the Day

An Organized, Tasty Coffee Experience
|
I have always been a coffee lover. There is something about the aroma and taste
that I just love and I look forward to my one cup each day. While I enjoy
paying a visit to my local coffee shop for one of their wonderful brews now and
then, I don't do so often. It's not always convenient to stop doing whatever
I'm doing and make the trip. Plus, it's always very expensive having coffee
out, especially if you want something even the slightest bit fancy. That's why,
on most days, I am my own barista at home. Doing so saves a ton of money and
I've discovered that, with a little bit of know-how and organization, it's easy
to brew yourself a wonderful (and even a bit fancy) cup of coffee at home.
1. Set up your own coffee station. The first thing I did was set up a
cute and personal coffee station in the kitchen. The coffee maker is there, of
course, and I placed a serving tray on the counter with some mugs, coffee, tea
bags, stir sticks, honey and other coffee and tea helpers. It is like my
family's own little hot beverage shop where we can 'stop and shop' in the
morning.
2. Be sure your coffee machine is clean. Because coffee beans have oil,
for every day you don't wash your coffee maker, the oil from the previous batch
is going to be left behind. Eventually, every cup you make is going to have a
'burnt' taste. Clean your coffee maker daily, according to manufacturer
directions, as far as removing the coffee grounds, and cleaning the brew
basket, lid and carafe. Deep clean every few months.
3. Invest in a milk frother. If you are a person who likes the fancier
coffee drinks, consider investing in a
milk frother. I was given one by my
daughter as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it! You simply add the milk or
creamer to the machine, hit a button, and it turns the milk into yummy, frothy
topping for your coffee. It makes the coffee that you make at home seem like it
came right from a fancy coffee shop, but without the coffee shop price.
4. Add some flavor. There are so many different flavors of coffee on the
market now that it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. I buy small
portions of different flavors and try them all out.
Of course, there are flavored creamers too, although most contain sugar and/or
chemicals. For a healthier option, you can buy your favorite plain regular
coffee and add some flavor as follows:
Add a drop (or a dash) of one of the following to your coffee mug:
- vanilla extract (not the imitation stuff...the real stuff)
- pumpkin pie spice
- cinnamon or cocoa powder (yummy and looks very pretty on frothy milk)
5. Kick it up a notch on occasion. On those rare occasions when you want
something more decadent in your coffee, you can experiment with a scoop of ice
cream or coconut milk.
