Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers
Here are a few GON reader letters I pulled out of the vault from years ago.
They're still so timely, and I thought it was a good time of year to re-share
them both.
20 Years of Attic Clutter
Your organizing suggestions got me started on cleaning out about 20 years of
attic clutter.
I used to store books in the attic in large boxes. They were rarely looked at
because of the inconvenience in finding a certain book.
My son and daughter-in-law were throwing out two large bookcases that had seen
better days. I put them in my attic near a window. All of the books that I
thought someone might enjoy, I placed on the shelves.
The bottom shelves now contain all of my four adult childrens' childhood books
that I have saved. In front of the window I have placed a child's table and
chair set, in preparation for my future grand kids. They'll have a cozy place
to sit and read now.
I also plan to place open boxes of age appropriate toys on the other side of
the window. And I have a large box of costumes that my children wore that will
also be stored in this area.
My first grandchild is due soon. When he is old enough he can periodically go
in the attic with me and find books and playthings that interest him.
My youngest sons have just brought home college books. I have saved crates that
I get bulk fruit in. These are handy since they have handles and are small
enough to easily carry. I have the boys put the books title side up and all
next to each other. The crates hold anywhere from 10 to 15 books depending on
the size, so they're portable.
We are also now developing an area for each of my four sons. They can store
anything in the attic as long as they put it in their designated areas. We
even have an area for future furniture hand-me-downs. These are now carefully
looked at to make sure they are desirable enough to keep. If not, they're
history!
Until you inspired me, the attic contained many items that were just stuck up
there because someone didn't want to take the time to make a decision.
Consequently there were many items that should have been given away or thrown
away.
I have a feeling that the new order that will soon be completed will inspire
even more thoughtful storage!
I thank you and my family thanks you. Since a good friend told me of your web
site, I have cleaned out and organized almost every inch of my home. Before, I
would dread anyone seeing the cluttered areas, like the attic. Now I would love
for anyone to see them.
My husband has been so amazed that he started reading your ideas. He thinks you
are brilliant. He now requires all of his staff to read the Get Organized Now!
newsletter also.

Binder Solution for Parents of Kids in Colleges
With a child in college in another state, I have a binder set up with:
a) maps for the city and state
b) driving directions (from off the internet and with notations from previous
trips)
c) travel brochures from the state and city chamber of commerce
d) university campus maps and brochures and
e) hotel and restaurant brochures/numbers/location/maps off the internet.
When taking our student back and forth to school, I check the information and
then just grab the binder and put it in the car. Whenever we need to reference
something on our trip, the binder is a wonderful, handy reference!

Problem Behaviors with...
Brain Training for Dogs

To fast forward to making your dog's problem behaviors disappear, visit:

No matter what your dog's problem behavior is, be it jumping, peeing in the
house, aggression, pulling on the leash...or whatever, there is ONE SOLUTION
that can help STOP this problem now.
The sad fact is, most dog trainers miss this solution entirely. They give you
cookie cutting training programs. They use outdated, mean, and unkind dominance
techniques. Or worse yet, they have no qualifications to be offering advice.
So what's the answer to stopping your dog's behavioral problems? In 5 simple
words...
Discovering your dog's hidden intelligence.
Let me explain. More intelligent dogs are better behaved. A more intelligent dog
takes commands easier and understands what you need. The good news is, no matter
how clever you think your dog is, you can unlock your pet's hidden intelligence
quickly and easily.
Don't waste a second longer coping with problem behaviors you don't need to be
dealing with. Visit this link to learn more about Brain Training for Dogs:

___ 2. Sort through a basement or attic box. Most of us have boxes
stowed away that we haven't peeked at in years. Sort through one of them.
Determine what you can donate or discard. If one contains a special memory,
consider displaying it, rather than keeping it packed up and stowed away.
