Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers
Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...
Having a Project Packed and Ready to Go
I love to knit, but sometimes could not find the time to do so. Then, I read
your tip about having a project packed and ready to go. I use it all the time.
I keep a tote with a knitting project,
that doesn't require too much concentration, near my favorite chair. I always
see it, and I never leave home without it.
If I can get one row of knitting done, eventually the project I'm working on
will be completed. It's the best way to kill time in the doctor's office yet.
Several years ago, we were traveling to South Carolina quite often. I was able
to knit while riding. I decided to make an afghan and the entire thing was
completed during these trips. The afghan also reminds me of the trips every
time I see it--what a bonus!

Bins, Bins, Bins
All I have to say is bins, bins, bins. Those 10, 14, or 18 gallon bins you can
get from Target or Wal-Mart for a few dollars each are so useful.
I live a condo and everything has to be put in its place or our home is a
mess. I use these bins to organize everything.
I put the kid's winter clothes in them and store on closet shelves.
I sort out the kids toys, so if my son is looking for one of his hundreds of
Hot Wheels, he knows which bin to find them all in.
In my room, I put all of my purses or bags in a bin. I even have a specific bin
for Christmas decorations. Crafts, sheets, comforters, shoes, toiletries and
much more can be stored in these bins too.
Just make sure you label them so you know what's in them--either with masking
tape or if you desire, you can even make personalized labels on the computer.
These bins can come quite large, are very sturdy and strong. And they are
stackable, so they save space too!

Thoughtful Reminder to Help Someone
Hi, I hope it's OK just to use this space for a compliment. I thought I'd take
2 minutes to thank you for your thoughtful reminder to take that moment to help
someone. Since retiring, I'm looking for those opportunities, I'm more relaxed
so more likely to see them, and usually can keep my schedule a bit looser than
in the past.
Coming out of the doctor's office recently, I saw an older-than-me lady
struggling up the ramp with her walker. I reversed course and went back to hold
the door, so she'd know that was one less worry. Her smile was worth it all,
though I had to beg her not to hustle!
I don't say that to congratulate myself. I feel very lucky nowadays to be in a
better position to show my caring. And again, thank you. It helps a lot knowing
YOU care.
