Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers
Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...
Stocking up on items used all the time
Maria,
Not really a question... but I happen to work in Supply Chain for a major corporation. Shelves are growing emptier and emptier as we progress through this supply sortage crisis so many industries are experiencing.
I might suggest, when clearing out garage-type spaces, that one keep quantities of items that they use all the time and store extras of those items...enough that will be needed in the coming 12 months.
Word is that supply is going to continue to be limited through the second quarter of next year. Just a thought. (Like screws, washers, etc.)

Keeping a few special voicemail messages
Hi, Maria,
I want to make a comment about deleting voice mail messages. The electronic system my landline phone service had a long time ago would delete messages after 30 days. The only way I could save one, was by forwarding it to myself as a new message. It was a real nuisance.
My son passed 9 years ago, and there were a few of his messages that I was saving, until one day I missed the 'forwarding to myself' by ONE day, and they got deleted. I was absolutely devastated, like re-living his death all over again.
Now they have a new electronic messaging system, and I always know when a message is over the 30-day limit to be saved, so I just have to press a certain number to keep it for another 30 days. I save a few messages of my dear loved ones, because you never know when someone can be taken away, whether expected or suddenly. Love all your stuff, by the way!!!

Ensuring others know why ornaments were special
Thank you for the prompt! I have years, decades, generations of pictures to organize and write about. I really want to do that this year, especially since I am 74!
My friend told me about taking pictures of her special Christmas ornaments and writing about them, so her children will remember why they are special. I need to do that with a lot in my house. Antiques, pictures, quilts, linsey Woolsey blankets, etc.!

___ 1. Do today's task on my October Monthly Organizing Checklist. The October 15 TO DO focuses on an old hobby. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my October Monthly Organizing Checklist.
___ 2. Make a Christmas ornament journal. Do you have special Christmas ornaments in your collection? As you unearth each one from storage this upcoming holiday season, consider journaling about where and/or from who you got that ornament and why it's meaningful. You can describe the ornament and then write a journal entry next to each description OR snap a photo of the ornament, print it, and paste it next to your journal entry. This will be a lovely keepsake for your kids or
grandkids if you plan to pass these ornaments onto them someday.
___ 3. Read the results. Last month, our web poll question posed to GON readers was, `How do you handle cleaning that is necessary after cooking?' Here are the results of that poll, along with a bunch of reader comments. Visit: GetOrganizedNow.com to access these web poll results!
'Sharing our ideas with others is a way of showing what is important to us. We are sending out signals about ourselves as we highlight what we value and care about.' (Alfred Hermida)
I'd love to hear from you.
